Sur la Pont Avignon! A bustling, exciting, hectic, wonderful place

Avignon was the setting for the Babylonian Captivity, a the RC Church called it, and the Great Schism in the 14th century, all of which providentially we means of protecting John Wycliffe and others. It was a tough sell to claim papal supremacy when rival popes were excommunicating (damning to hell) each other and claiming the other guy(s) we heretics not vicars of Christ. What a mess!

It was a dizzying visit, with ancient edifices rising high above medieval clad entertainers, from the humorous to the risqué and beyond. TIF (this is France). Enjoy the pics!
